WORKSHOPS
Workshops are the hallmark activities of NADI. They are specifically designed and personally fitted to suit the target audience. During a typical workshop, particpants would have their blood pressure and blood glucose checked 3-4 times at different times, engage in an educational session, and an exercise routine designed by the NADI team that is a mix of Qi gong, Yoga, and basic agility. Lastly, the workshop ends with a healthy meal that is specifically designed to mirror the typical diets of the city population.
We realized that even though there is an abundant amount of information about living a preventative lifestyle and about preventing diabetes and hypertension, people still become pre-diabetic and pre-hypertensive. Many of those with the condition are not even aware. Why is this so? Shows, speeches, and solely informational sessions often only tell a person to change their lifestyle. We allow a person to temporarily live the lifestyle during the 3-hour workshop. We teach participants what a healthy exercise routine looks like and what a healthy meal may look like, then we actually go on and live that lifestyle for a few hours. This allows people to make a more informed decision about their livelihood and be inclined to positively change their current lifestyle.
What is the purpose of checking blood pressure and blood glucose 3-4 times? Both blood pressure and blood glucose can change within a matter of seconds. Their values are constantly fluctuating and can be normal at one particular time point by chance. Testing blood pressure and blood glucose once may be sufficient as far as a physician is concerned. However, we strive to conduct comprehensive examinations of blood pressure and blood glucose so that any abnormality can be found early and treated naturally before it becomes too late. We check blood pressure and blood glucose at a fasting state, post-exercise, and post-meal. Additionally, for blood pressure, we check it at multiple body positions (sitting, standing, supine) as well as both arms and wrists to obtain the most comprehensive assessment of blood pressure.
