The number of pre-diabetic and pre-hypertensive patients worldwide is increasing at an epidemic rate. Almost 1 in 2 people are unaware that they have hypertension and/or diabetes.
These statistics are particularly alarming in India and USA, which have some of the highest rates of diabetes & hypertension.
Part of the problem lies in the lack of prevention education among the general public and lack of access to diagnostic procedures and treatment options. It also lies in the fact that diabetes and hypertension remain mysteries. We have much to still learn about the conditions, their diagnoses and causative agents to truly understand what is going on inside the body.
The main motive of North American Disease Intervention (NADI) is to improve upon these problems.
NADI is a community service-oriented organization and registered nonprofit that strives to raise awareness about diabetes and hypertension in local communities, while also providing the diagnostic and educational tools necessary to lead a preventative lifestyle. We train undergraduate students to measure and interpret blood pressure, BMI, grip strength, and other measurements. Then, our students volunteer at free health screenings for the public at various community centers, religious venues, gyms, etc. At our screenings, we emphasize how basic lifestyle choices can lead to major improvements in participants' health.
